A Stellar Block in Noho

DECEMBER 19, 2011

The block-long stretch of Bond Street between Lafayette and Bowery has become a veritable constellation of high-profile, architecturally-distinct residences and a destination for some of the city’s most exciting restaurants, boutique hotels and shops.

In lively, fashionable NoHo, at the crossroads of the East Village, SoHo, Greenwich Village and the Lower East Side, the modern classic 25 Bond, with its four fireplaces in each apartment, 89-foot-long entertaining spaces and two-car parking stands just across the street from the iconic Herzog & de Meuron-designed 40 Bond Street with its filigreed aluminum gate and curved green glass framing, both epitomizing the individualized luxury of a new kind of downtown Manhattan. The block is a cornerstone of the neighborhood’s status as a showcase for some of the city’s most exciting modern architecture.

The latest standout to rise on this already star-studded block is 41 Bond, a nearly-complete nine-story striped-bluestone beauty with only seven apartments, all of which have already been sold. Self-storage magnate Adam Gordon purchased 41 Bond along with the historic Bouwerie Lane Theater at 54 Bond Street. The new building’s innovative shuttered front facade and modern glass-and-metal rear facade were designed by Steven Harris, the architect behind Gordon’s townhouse at 92 Jane Street in the West Village.
