Overview of The San Remo at 145 Central Park West

Built in 1930 and designed by preeminent New York architect Emery Roth, the San Remo is located at 145 Central Park West, between 74th and 75th Streets.

The layouts of most of the Sam Remo’s 136 apartments are unusually spacious – even by the generous standards of the neighborhood – with many units more than 2,500 square feet and living rooms as big as 620 square feet. Ceilings range from 10 to 11 feet and lavish finishes are the norm. Since becoming a co-op in the 1970s, the apartments have all been outfitted with modern appliances and fixtures as well as thermal window glass.

San Remo amenities include a state-of-the-art health club, a bike room, a multi-purpose community room and private storage lockers. It is located close to Central Park, the shops and restaurants of the Upper West Side and such cultural attractions as the Museum of Natural History.

Carter’s Review

"One of the city’s, and the world’s, greatest residential skyscrapers, the San Remo at 145 Central Park West is the city’s most beautiful apartment building and one of its most prestigious addresses.

Like the Beresford a few blocks north on Central Park West, the twin-towered San Remo is one of the masterpieces of architect Emery Roth, whose firm, Emery Roth & Sons, would subsequently design more office buildings in the city than any other firm."

Pros & Cons

  • One of the city's grandest and most desirable addresses
  • Spectacular, protected views from most apartments
  • Adjacency to Central Park
  • Two blocks from subway
  • Top of the line health club
  • Celebrity building
  • While a world-class landmark, construction details are not supreme
  • Towers are slightly ungainly when seen from the west

Many people confuse it with Eldorado building in New york
Worked there as a doorman after 47 years in the textile industry. Very interesting and very exciting when a pipe broke.
