Carter's Review

This handsome, red-brick, 16-story apartment building at 410 East 57th Street between Sutton Place and First Avenue was erected in 1929 and has 64 co-operative units.

It was designed by Schwartz & Gross.

It was converted from a rental in 1961.

Bottom Line

A very attractive, pre-war building designed by Schwartz & Gross with many large apartments very close to Sutton Place.

Description

The red-brick building has a one-story limestone base with sidewalk landscaping flanking a columned entrance surround with a canopy.  There is a broad bandcourse above the third floor that is supported by two-story-high stone columns.  The four center windows on the second floor above the entrance have semi-circular stone tops.

There is a thinner bandcourse above the fourth floor with center balustrades and another thin bandcourse above the 12th.  There is a good-sized cornice above the 13th and a large glass solarium in the middle of the 16th floor.

The sides of the building has stone window surrounds between the 2nd and 3rd and the 13th through the 15th floors.

Amenities

This building has a full-time doorman, an elevator person, a gym, a garden, and storage.  Pets are allowed.
