Carter's Review
Erected in 1915, this attractive, dark red-brick apartment building at 955 Park Avenue between 81st and 82nd Streets was converted to a cooperative in 1978.
The 13-story, mid-block building has 33 apartments.
It was designed by Robert T. Lyons, whose other structures include 993 Park Avenue and 1155 Park Avenue.
Bottom Line
A pleasant, red-brick, pre-war building with nice decorative façade touches close to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and P.S. 6.
Description
The façade’s composition is quite strong with light-colored, two-story pilasters near the top and pronounced window reveals on the third floor. Beneath the canopy, there is a nice fan grill in front of a marble slab above the entrance to the building's small lobby.
There are arched pairs of windows at either end of the avenue frontage with two finials rising above the roofline over each pair.
The building has consistent new fenestration and some protruding air-conditioners.
Amenities
The building has a full-time doorman, storage and a bicycle room.
It is pet-friendly.
