Carter’s Review

"At first glance, the 36-story residential tower known as the Evans Tower at 171 East 84th Street on the northeast corner at Third Avenue appears like just another minimalist Upper East Side light-colored-brick tower. Yet its massing and plan are very finely accomplished here, creating a good plaza at the corner in an area that needs such relief and its cross axis opens up more views for the residents while also making the large building a bit less massive. Developed by Louis Evangelista and Legent Realty Company, the building contains 220 condominium apartments and opened in early 1986 in a neighborhood that has become quite lively with a good mix of restaurants and neighborhood stores. It was designed by Philip Birnbaum & Associates

Broker & Buyer Comments

This "established" 1985 Upper East Side full-service building offers a "complete amenity package" including pool, gym, and party space, though regulars note facilities are "ready for a refresh"; while "not ultra-modern," the building provides "reliable" doorman service in a "prime" Manhattan location
