Carter's Review

The handsome, mid-block, co-operative loft apartment building at 143 West 20th Street between the Avenue of the Americas and Seventh Avenue in Chelsea was erected in 1909.

The 12-story building has 13 apartments.


 

Bottom Line

This very attractive, pre-war loft building has a central location in Chelsea convenient to many restaurants, stores and public transportation.


 

Description

The pale-orange brick building has a two-story, rusticated limestone and an attractive cornice.

It has bandcourses above the 2nd, 3rd and 10th floors and very attractive spandrels beneath the wide windows on the fourth through the 10th floors.

The top two floors have handsome pilasters and the building has some protruding air-conditioners.

The building has some retail space on its ground floor.

The building has a keyed passenger elevator.


 

Apartments

Apartments have high ceilings.

Apartment 10S is a three-bedroom unit with a 21-foot-wide liing room and a 15-foot-wide open kitchen.

Apartment 3N has an entry foyer that leads past a 16-foot-widekitchen to a very large living/dining room with an angled bathroom.
