Carter's Review

This 33-story rental apartment building at 100 West 26th Street on the southwest corner of the Avenue of the Americas in Chelsea.

It is known as Chelsea Tower and was erected in 2003 and has 228 apartments.

It was designed by Schuman Lichtenstein Claman & Efron, which also designed two other apartment towers that were developed about the same time in the Flower District on Sixth Avenue.

The developer was Michael Steinberg of S & P 26 Development Associates, LLC.

Bottom Line

A full-service rental tower in the middle of the “Flower District” stretch in Chelsea that is one block away from Madison Square Park.

Description

The building has dark red masonry and glass façades.  The tower is setback on a 7-story base that has a side-street entrance with a large glass marquee.  The tower has chamfered corners and the building has no sidewalk landscaping. 

The building has a slanted roof enclosure for mechanical equipment.

The lobby is two-stories high.

Amenities

The building has a sundeck terrace, a fitness center, a doorman, a concierge, a live-in superintendent, a laundry room, a bicycle room, maid service, storage, a water filtration system, a garage with direct building access and it allows pets.

Apartments

Apartments have GE Profile kitchen appliances, granite kitchen countertops, and pearwood kitchen cabinetry.  Bathrooms have marble floors and marble floor-to-ceiling shower surrounds and tri-view medicine cabinets. Some units have washers and dryers and some corner angled corner windows.

Apartment F on floors 22 through 33 and the penthouse is a two-bedroom unit with a 22-foot-long living room with an angled corner window that is also a feature of the 15-foot-long master bedroom.  The unit has an enclosed kitchen.

Apartment C is a one-bedroom unit on floors 4 to 12 and 14 through 21 with an 18-foot-long living room facing west.

Apartment H on floors 9 through 12 and 14 through 21 is a studio unit with a 22-foot-long living room facing the avenue and an 11-foot-long sleeping alcove.

Apartment D on floors 4 through 12 and 14 through 21 and Apartment C on floors 33 to 33 and the penthouse are studio units facing the side-street with 21-foot-long living rooms.
