Carter's Review

This attractive, 12-story apartment building at 550 West 29th Street between 10th and 11th avenues in Chelsea was completed in 2017 by Cary Tamarkin and High Line Development Group LLC,

Mr. Tamarkin was also the architect and Hill West was the architect of record.

The building contains 19 condominium apartments.

The ground floor will have about 4,572 square feet of retail space.

Mr. Tamarkin’s other buildings include 10 Sullivan Street, 456 West 19th Street and 508 West 24th Street.

Bottom Line

A pleasant mid-rise, mid-block apartment building with many very high ceilings and nice finishes and it is close to the High Line.

Description

The sand-colored brick building has a roof deck, three setbacks and very large, multi-pane windows.

According to the building’s website, “The building’s bold, muscular façade is hewn out of hand-cast limestone Roman bricks and punctuated by the signature massive metal casement windows.”

The lobby has a palette of Pietra Cardosa and polished White Stratus slabs with cypress tongue-and-groove ceiling and millwork.

Amenities

The building has a fitness center, private storage for each apartment, bicycle storage and an attended lobby.

Apartments

All apartments have washers and dryers and more than half will have terraces.

A dozen apartments are duplexes, four are full-floor units and three are penthouses.

Each duplex home features dramatic 20-foot-tall ceilings, with signature multi-paned walls of glass offering abundant natural light.

The majority of the residences feature panoramic views of the High Line, Hudson River or the architecture of West Chelsea, and more than half of the homes come with private terraces of up to 750 square feet in area.

The three penthouses have interiors spanning approximately 2,950 to 3,850 square feet in total area. All three feature large outdoor spaces of approximately 365 square feet, including an enormous 1,835 square foot private rooftop for Penthouse A.

Apartments have solid 4‐inch‐wide rift and quarter sawn white oak floors with natural matte finish, 2¼ thick apartment entry doors in ebonized European ash and polished chrome hardware, and energy efficient, individually controlled multi‐zone heating and cooling.

Simplexes feature private rear terraces and south-facing duplexes have private balconies.

Penthouses feature private keyed entry from elevator and gas fireplaces.

Kitchens have European white oak cabinetry with Pietra Cardosa slab countertops and backsplashes, Wolf professional‐grade gas cooktops, Sub‐Zero refrigerator and freezer and integrated wine refrigerator, and Miele dishwashers.

Master bathrooms have Dolomite marble floors and walls and slab countertops, white oak double vanities, and Zuma soaking tubs.
