Carter's Review
This very handsome, modern, mid-block apartment building at 350 West 23rd Street between Ninth and Tenth Avenues in Chelsea was completed in 2008.
The 8-story building, which is known as Modern 23, is distinguished by an asymmetrical glass façade punctuated by a few box balconies and a boldly massed top.
It has 15 floor-through condominium apartments and was designed by Daniel L. Goldner Architects.
The developer is 350-52 West 23rd LLC, of which Martin Hollander is the owner.
Bottom Line
A very elegant and modern mid-rise, mid-block apartment building in the heart of Chelsea, close to the High Line, many art galleries and many restaurants.
Description
The building’s glass frontage is modulated with the projecting gray balconies and irregularly spaced narrow orange strips. The entire composition is neatly and thinly framed in dark masonry.
The ground floor is quite distinctive with a “floating” dark gray masonry component on the east and a white stone façade on the west, both of which flank the entrance and a large orange window into the lobby.
The rear façade of the building has balconies and terraces.
Amenities
The building has an attended lobby with a package room and a cyber-doorman, a roof deck, key-lock elevator entry, gas-burning fireplaces, individual storage units and bicycle storage.

Apartments have floor-to-ceiling windows with sliding doors to Juliet balconies as well as individual heating, rift oak flooring and air-conditioning controls.
