Carter's Review
This building, which is known as The Oculus, is notable for its reintroduction of terracotta façades.
A 10-story, residential condominium, mid-block building, it is located at 50 West 15th Street between Fifth Avenue and the Avenue of the Americas in a prime Chelsea location that is also very convenient to Greenwich Village and the Union Square district.
Construction began in 2006.
FXFowle is the architect and Alchemy Properties is the developer.
Alchemy Properties has been very active in the Chelsea neighborhood in recent years and its completed and sold-out projects include the Lion's Head Condo at 121 West 19th Street, the Paradigm at 146-8 West 22nd Street. Other completed projects nearby include the Bullmoose at 42-8 East 20th Street and Gramercy Hill at 120 East 29th Street. The Oculus has 47 apartments that range in size from studio units with about 624 square feet to three-bedroom apartments with about 2,300 square feet. According to Kenneth Horn, the president of Alchemy, 21 apartments will have private outdoor space.
The building will have a full-time doorman/concierge and a live-in super.
