Carter's Review

This impressive, 12-story building at 503 West 24th Street in West Chelsea was erected in 2018 and has 5 condominium apartments.

It was developed by The Victor Group and Michael Shvo and designed by Peter Marino.

The building, which is next to the High Line Elevated Park, replaced a Getty gas station.

Bottom Line

Sometimes the most impressive things come in small packages and the triplex penthouse in this svelte, 5-unit building sold for $59,060,000, a "downtown" record, to Robert S. Smith of Vista Equity Partners, according to a January 9, 2019 article at therealdeal.com.

Description

Unlike the architect's black leather jackets, this small and boxy mid-rise is very glassy with thin black mullions separating its many different size windows.

Its southwest corner, which is setback somewhat from the High Line, has numerous balconies carved out of its rectilinear form.

Amenities

The building has a full-time doorman, a concierge, and a package room.

Apartments

In January 2019, it was reported in The New York Times that J. Tomlinson Hill paid $29 million for the third and fourth floors in the building with 6,500 square feet to house his large contemporary art collection, which is known as the Hill Art Collection that contains four works by Francis Bacon, 10 by Andy Warhol, four by Roy Lichtenstein, three by Cy Twombly and several by Christopher Wool.  According to therealdeal.com, Mr. Hill ran the hedge fund business for Blackstone until 2018.

In April, 2018, the Lehmann Maupin Gallery paid $27 million for its gallery space on the building's first and second floors.

Residence No. 7 is a four-bedroom unit with 3,854 square feet of interior space and 159 square feet of exterior space with a 25-foot-long entry foyer, a 28-foot-long living room with a fireplace, a 15-foot-wide balcony, a 15-foot-wide dining room and a 17-foot-wide kitchen with an island.

Residence No. 6 is a three-bedroom unit with 3,312 square feet with a 9-foot-long entry foyer that leads to a 32-foot-wide great room with a 19-foot-wide kitchen/dining room with an island.
