Carter's Review

This building at 970 Kent Avenue at 970 Kent Avenue between Willoughby and Dekalb Avenues in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn near the Clinton Hill border and the Navy Yard to the north was erected in 1915 and for many years served as the Kaiser Underwear Factory.

It was converted in 2004 to 103 loft condominium apartments by 970 Kent Avenue Associates.

It is known as The Kent.

Elissa Winzelberg was the architect and she added two floors in the conversion for setback penthouse duplexes with slanted roofs.

Bottom Line

A former underwear factory near Clinton Hill in Brooklyn that was converted to lofts in 2004 with high ceilings and some penthouse duplexes with slanted roofs and Manhattan vistas.

Description

The building has a five-step-up entrance with an angled canopy. 

The building permits window air-conditioners and has no sidewalk landscaping.

Amenities

The building has a doorman, a fitness center, a live-in superintendent, a running track at its rear, a children's playroom, a garden and storage.

Apartments

The apartments have high ceilings and large multi-pane windows. 

Penthouse 7 is a two-bedroom duplex with a 8-foot-wide entry foyer on the upper level with a 17-foot-long living/dining room and a 8-foot-wide kitchen with a breakfast bar and a stairway to the lower level with the bedrooms with a hall to a 30-foot-wide terrace and steps down on the other side to a much deeper 30-foot-wide deck. 

Apartment 303 is a two-bedroom unit with 1,000 square feet with a 22-foot-wide living/dining room with an open kitchen with an island. 

Apartment G9 is a two-bedroom unit with a 21-foot-wide living/dining room with an 11-foot-long open kitchen with a breakfast bar and a 20-foot-wide patio.
