Carter Horsley's Building Review Carter Horsley

71 CITYREALTY RATING

Carter's Review

This attractive, orange-brick, 16-story, rental apartment building at 180 Myrtle Avenue in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, was erected in 2016 and has 228 apartments.

The building is known as The Margo and it was erected by the Red Apple Group.

It was designed by Richard Dattner, who also designed two other buildings, The Andrea at 218 Myrtle Avenue and the Giovanni at 81 Fleet Place, in the same complex bridging Downtown Brooklyn and Fort Greene.

Mr. Dattner is best known for several important and very fine projects such as P.S. 235 near the World Trade Center, the dramatically shaped Spring Street Salt Shed overlooking the Hudson River, Via Verde – The Green Way, a sensationally attractive residential project in the Bronx designed in association with Grimshaw Architects, the Number 7 Subway extension at Hudson Yards, and the very handsome rehabilitation of the West 72nd Street subway station in association with Gruzen Samton LLP.

Bottom Line

An attractive, large, mid-rise rental in Fort Greene with good amenities.

Description

The L-shaped building steps down from 15 to 13 stories and has a retail base with a landscaped roof terrace over the first-story podium.

The building has many corner windows and four upper floors on the side-street have some balconies.

Amenities

The building has a concierge, a roof deck, a garage, a live-in superintendent, a bicycle room, package room, a gym and a garden.  It is also a smoke-free building.
