Carter's Review

This attractive, 6-story residential condominium building at 185 Plymouth Street in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn was converted from a four-story former Brillo warehouse in 2016 by Alloy Development of which Jared Della Valle is the principal and the architect.

It has 8 large lofts in the original building and two duplex penthouses.

It is close to the East River and the Manhattan Bridge.

It is also known as 60 John Street.

Bottom Line

An expansion and renovation of a former red-brick Brillo factory in Dumbo conceals a very modern and handsome garden courtyard with birch trees and apartments with high ceilings and brick walls.

Description

Every apartment has a glass wall facing the building’s courtyard that has birch and red bud trees and ferns.

Amenities

The building has a gym, a bicycle room, a virtual doorman, keyed elevator access and a package room.

Apartments

Some apartments have 13-foot-high ceilings and most have exposed wooden timbers and brick walls, wide-plank flooring and skylit master bathrooms.

Kitchens have Italian rifia white lacquer cabinetry, Sub-Zero refrigerators, 16 linear feet of deep overhead shelving and 20 linear feet of countertop and Bosch ovens, ranges with a retractable range hood and dishwashers.

The south penthouse facing Plymouth Street is a three-bedroom duplex with 3,056 square feet of interior  space and 1,870 square feet of external space with a very large living room with an open kitchen and an island and large front and rear terraces on the lower level.

The north penthouse is a three-bedroom duplex unit with 2,156 square feet of interior space and 2,049 square feet of external space and a large angled living room on the lower level with a fireplace and an open kitchen and a large, angled north terrace facing John Street.  Two of the bedrooms also open onto a south terrace.  The upper level has a very large angled terrace.
