Carter's Review

This very attractive, 10-story residential condominium building at 42 Main Street at the corner of Front Street in the DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) section of Brooklyn was erected in 2003.

It has 21 apartments.

It was developed by Boymelgreen Developers of Brooklyn and designed by Elena Kalman of Stamford, Conn.

Bottom Line

This building is a surprising mix of Parisian-style balconies and Egyptian-revival style piers and capitals at its turreted corner that is across from DUMBO (Down Under The Manhattan Bridge Overpass).

Description

The building is distinguished by its rounded corner that is setback at the 8th floor.  The base of the building has 7 capitals at the setback atop thin piers that rise from the second floor and the crown of the setback tower has 4 such capitals.

The building, which has multi-paned windows, is not quite symmetrical with one less window bay on the side-street.

The one-story base has rusticated columns and attractive balconies on the flanks of its corner.

Its façade is a beige, stucco-like material that contrasts well with the reddish piers and capitals.

Amenities

The building has a part-time doorman, a bicycle room, storage, health club, a roof deck and a meditation garden.  It permits pets.

The building is one-fifth of a mile away from the Fulton Ferry Landing.
