Carter's Review
This large, 20-story, white-brick apartment building at 115 East 9th Street between Fourth and Third avenues was erected in 1964 and converted to a co-operative in 1982. It has 260 co-operative apartments.
It was designed by Robert L. Bien, whose other buildings in the city include 1 East 67th Street, and 812 Fifth Avenue.
It has a prime location straddling Greenwich Village and the East Village.
It is a block north of Cooper Union and St. Mark’s Place and across Third Avenue from Stuyvesant Street. It is also not far from the very handsome Grace Episcopal Church and St. Mark’s-in-the-Bowery Church, both on Tenth Street.
The building is also known as 30 Third Avenue and is convenient to excellent public transportation.
Bottom Line
A very large, white-brick apartment building from the 1960s that is named after the “main street” of the East Village and the handsome, nearby St. Mark’s-in-the-Bowery Church.
Description
The building has some balconies and corner windows, discrete air-conditioners, a canopied entrance with sidewalk landscaping. It also has some setbacks and part of its façade is indented and has stringcourse between floors and also between windows.
Amenities
The building has a full-time doorman, a live-in superintendent, a garage, a laundry, a bicycle room and storage. It is pet friendly.
