Review of 16 West 21st Street by Carter Horsley

Morris Adjmi has designed a frosted-glass façade for the 14-story, mid-block residential condominium project at 16 West 21st Street.

The project, which involves a 1930 building, has 9 full-floor units, a garden duplex unit, and a triplex penthouse.

The developer is the F & T Group and Zac Posen is the interior designer.

Bottom Line

A nice mid-block condominium with numerous full-floor units and a triplex penthouse project in Chelsea that is convenient to Greenwich Village and the Flatiron District.

Description

Mr. Adjmi recently designed a six-story, 32-unit building at 71 Laight Street in TriBeCa that converted a red-brick coffee and tea 1905 warehouse to loft condominium units and built an adjoining new structure on Greenwich Street as “a mirror image of the existing building” with an aluminum panel skin and a plasma finish to create a “photographic negative” of the existing building.

Amenities

The building has a doorman and is seeking LEED Gold certification.

Apartments

The penthouse has a lower level with a 23-foot-wide living room with a fireplace and two bedrooms with a balcony, a level with a 23-foot-wide dining room with a fireplace and a 23-foot-wide, eat-in kitchen with a private terrace, an upper level with a 23-foot-wide master bedroom with a fireplace and a small office, and a room with a 23-foot-wide private terrace.

The eighth and ninth floors and the tenth and eleventh floors are three-bedroom duplexes with 23-foot-long dining rooms with open kitchens and an island and two bedrooms on the lower levels and 23-foot-long living rooms and master bedrooms with balconies on the upper levels.

The townhouse unit is a duplex with a living/dining room with an open kitchen and a large private terrace on the lower level and three bedrooms on the upper level.

The residences on the third through the seventh floors are two-bedroom units with a 23-foot-wide living/dining room and an open kitchen alcove.
