Carter's Review

This 6-story, mid-block building at 190 Green Street in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn was built in 2005 and has 10 condominium apartments.

It was erected by Michael Zakutney and designed by MDIM Architects.

It is known as The Glass House on Green Street.

Bottom Line

A low-rise, mid-block, Rubik’s Cube building with a limited palette with an alternating geometry and deeply inset flanks that almost hint at a Corbu inspiration.

Description

The building’s street façade is highlighted by four red-colored “bands” above a recessed one-story base with one-half of each dark red railings, probably of wood, and the other half dark red stucco spandrels.

Behind the railings are double-height, deeply recessed windows.

The stucco bands alternate in their vertical positioning and in their middle have a red wall where the windows are recessed.

The center portion of the façade is flush with the building line and is flanked by the large, double-height windows that are thinly fairly in white material at the building’s sides.

The sixth level is largely setback but does not have a clear glass railing as indicated in early renderings.

The ground floor has a thin column supporting the 2nd floor.

Amenities

The building has a gym, a roof deck, covered parking space, storage, video security, a punch-key security system, and a laundry.
