This handsome, 6-story, mid-block, apartment building at 125 West 12th Street between the Avenue of the Americas and 7th Avenue in Greenwich Village was erected in 1916 for the Lustgarten Company and designed by Joseph C. Schaeffer.  It was converted to a co-operative in 1985.

It has 35 co-operative apartments.

It is on the same block at the residential complex created on the former St. Vincent’s Hospital site on its west end where there is an entrance to the 14th Street station of the IRT subway.

The site was formerly occupied by the First Reformed Presbyterian Church.

Bottom Line

An attractive, mid-block building with a moat, some large arched windows and fire escapes down the street from an entrance to the 14th Street IRT subway station and two blocks north of the great Jefferson Market Courthouse library complex and garden.

Description

The first and top floors of the building have large arched windows.

The building has a handsome entrance portico with columns and a canopy and landscaping in front of a moat. 

The center portion of the façade is slightly indented and the sides have fire escapes.

The roof line has pediments are either end.

The façade above the first floor is Flemish bond brick with stone accents.

The building has a bicycle room, storage and a live-in superintendent.

Apartments

Apartment 1C is a three-bedroom unit with an 8-foot-wide entry foyer that is next to a 12-foot-long, enclosed and windowed kitchen and a 16-foot-long living room.

Apartment 6F is a two-bedroom unit with an entry foyer that opens onto the 10-foot-wide dining room next to the enclosed, 7-foot-long kitchen with a pass-through to the 15-foot-wide living room.

Apartment 2F is a two-bedroom unit with a 15-foot-long living room off the open, 10-foot-wide, windowed kitchen.

Apartment 4F is a one-bedroom unit with an 8-foot-long entry foyer across from the enclosed and windowed, 12-foot-long kitchen, opens into the 18-foot-long living room.
