Carter's Review

This attractive and sedate, pre-war building at 41 Fifth Avenue on the southeast corner at 11th Street has a prime Lower Greenwich Village location overlooking two attractive churches, each with their own large garden: the Episcopal Church of the Ascension on the northwest corner at 10th Street and the lovely First Presbyterian Church and its extensive gardens on the northwest corner at 11th Street.

In addition, this building is directly across from 40 Fifth Avenue, the most impressive and attractive high-rise apartment building on Lower Fifth Avenue and Greenwich Village.

Built in 1929, this building was designed by Rosario Candela and converted to a cooperative in 1985. The 15-story building has 88 apartments, elevator persons and a sundeck. Its handsome dark brown brick façade is accented by a limestone first story.

This area is one of the most desirable in the city as it offers excellent public transportation, good schools, fine churches, many restaurants and stores and is also convenient to the trendy Flatiron District and all the charms of Greenwich Village. This stretch of Lower Fifth Avenue is considered one of the most attractive residential areas in the city.
