Carter's Review
This very grand and elegant Parisian-style apartment building was erected in 1905 and converted to a cooperative in 1978. The building s has a very impressive entrance that leads up a flight of stairs to handsome marble vestibule with very attractive doors leading into a spectacular lobby with elaborate Art Nouveau-style bas reliefs on the side walls and a marble floor. The 11-story building is surrounded by a deep dry moat and the entrance is flanked by tall limestone lampposts. The façade, which is topped by a two-story mansard roof, has many bay windows and several attractive wrought-iron balconies. The 42 apartments have very tall ceilings. The building is in a very prime and elegant Lower Fifth Avenue location directly across from the very handsome First Presbyterian Church on its large gardens. Its location is convenient to not only Greenwich Village but also the Union Square District with their many restaurants, stores and boutiques.
