Carter's Review
This handsome, 12-story residential condominium at 8 East 12th Street between Fifth Avenue and University Place in Greenwich Village was built in 1908 and has 11 full-floor apartments.
It was converted to a condominium in 1983.
It was designed by Samuel Sass who also designed 12 East 12th Street and 73 Fifth Avenue.
It is on an attractive street off Fifth Avenue and across the street from the handsome, modern grey-brick building with brise de soleils and an angled glass marquee of the NYU School of Professional Studies.
Bottom Line
A handsome, narrow 1908 building with full-floor condominium apartments that is very close to Lower Fifth Avenue, many restaurants and Union Square.
Description
The beige-brick building has a two-story dark-green base with pilasters on the second floor that matches that of the adjoining building to the east.12-foot-high ceilings and key-locked elevators.
It also has bandcourses above the 2nd, 3rd and tenth floors and dark red spandrels above the second floor.
It has a canopied entrance.
Amenities
The building has a roof deck, a full-time superintendent, bicycle storage, key-locked elevators and a video intercom. Cats and dogs are allowed.
Apartments
Each apartment has a washer and dryer and 12-foot-high ceilings.
Apartment 5 is a two-bedroom unit with 2,330 square feet, a 10-foot-long black walnut island in a 16-foot-long kitchen off a 29-foot-long living room, and kitchen appliances by Sub-Zero, Gaggenau and Miele.
Apartment 2A is a one-bedroom duplex with a 17-foot-long living room, a 10-foot-wide kitcehn and a 20-foot-wide dining room.
