Carter's Review

This 11-story building at 125 Central Park North was converted to a residential condominium project in 2006 when four stories were added by Gueva J. Lutz and Sara Olsen.

The conversion of the building, which was originally erected in 1920, now has 17 apartments, was designed by Peter Franzese.

The building was formerly Hale House, a children's shelter, which acquired the building in 1996.

It is just to the west of the attractive, 19-story apartment building at 111 Central Park North on the northwest corner of Lenox Avenue that was built in 2006 by The Athena Group and designed by Hillier Architecture and SLCE.

The building, which overlooks the northern end of Central Park and is close to Harlem Meer, has good public transportation and is not too far from the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine.

Bottom Line

A pleasant pre-war, mid-rise apartment that was enlarged in 2006 and has 17 apartments on Central Park North, many overlooking the park and its Harlem Meer.

Description

The building has a one-story rusticated stone base with arched entrances and the original building has a redbrick façade with attractive window surrounds on the 2nd, 7th floors and 8th floors.  The latter floor is partially setback.

The new top floors, which are setback has a grey façade.

The building has discrete air-conditioners.
