Carter's Review
One of the city's best apartment buildings, this brown-brick, 15-story building was erected as a cooperative in 1928 and has only 21 apartments.
The building has a splendid façade rich in interesting details. The entrance is recessed and leads through wrought-iron doors to a vaulted lobby. The building has circular enamel tiles with heraldic designs in arches above some of the first-floor windows. The building has wonderful double-height windows that are arched on the top floor, a doorman, some decorative balconies and sidewalk landscaping. It has discrete air-conditioners and a very distinctive roofline that is deeply curved with four peaks.
It is convenient to some cultural institutions and many world-famous boutiques along Madison Avenue as well as many restaurants and neighborhood shopping along Lexington and Third Avenues. Although the nearest subway station is several blocks away, there is good bus service on this major cross-town street.
