Built in 1927 in the Art Deco-style with a gorgeous limestone base and marble entrance, 170 East 78th Street —and its sister building across the street at 169 East 69th Street— were uniquely designed as artists’ residences with very high ceilings and oversized windows to allow for abundant natural light. Today, 170 is considered one of the most desirable boutique, full-service cooperative buildings on the Upper East Side.


  None of the thirty eight apartments in this nine story building are completely alike, and the ‘original’ combination triplex of 6B / 7A stands out as an exceptional renovation combining the historic prewar detail with contemporary living.

Off the kitchen and overlooking the living room is a custom built-in natural zebra wood bar. Also on this floor is a second bedroom with full bath en suite. All of the floors on the upper level are a custom basalt stone.


  Off the master bedroom and down a small flight of stairs is the bottom floor, dedicated to the master bathroom and huge dressing area with heated floors, custom closets and storage abound. Conveniently, there is an entrance to the apartment on this floor as well. Both bathrooms are fitted with DORN Bracht hardware, and along with the entire master dressing area, are completely encased in giant slabs of Calacatta Marble.?
