Carter Horsley's Building Review Carter Horsley
Dec 23, 2011

Carter's Review

This large, red-brick, 35-story apartment tower was erected in 1983 by the Carlyle Construction Corporation.

The tower, which has 13 apartments per floor, is in a very prime Upper East Side location, adjacent to Grace's food store on the avenue and across from the handsome Tower East apartment building whose setbacks provide considerable "light and air."

This stretch of Third Avenue has many major luxury apartment towers that have spawned many boutiques and restaurants.

This rather bulky building, which has a polished red granite base, has an attractive canopied entrance and lobby with a doorman and a concierge, a garage, a sundeck and laundries on every floor.

There is crosstown bus service on 72nd Street but the nearest subway stations are several blocks away on Lexington Avenue.

The building, which is known as the Wellesley, is at 200 East 72nd Street and also has addresses of 1239 Third Avenue and 201 1/2 East 71st Street.
