New York is no stranger to affordable housing lotteries, but one of a completely new type starts today: A partnership between BFC Partners and SAGE Advocacy and Services for LGBT Elders is at the helm of Ingersoll Senior Residences, New York’s first LGBT-friendly senior housing project at 112 Edwards Street in Fort Greene. The building is rising on unused land on NYCHA property, and a lottery has just launched for 108 low-income units (h/t 6sqft).
Individuals and couples where at least one member is aged 62 or older are eligible to apply for studios or one-bedrooms for which they will pay 30 percent of their income. The lottery will close once 2,000 applications have been received. See full details and criteria here.

At 17 stories and 145 units, the building by Marvel Architects is the nation’s largest LGBT-friendly elder housing project. Amenities will include a laundry room, lounge, outdoor communal terraces, on-site resident manager, and on-site social services provided by SAGE. The building is expected to open in fall 2019, and a second SAGE-developed housing center is underway in the Tremont section of the Bronx.
