The fun and creative wizzes at J. Goldman Design / BEAM Group have drawn up an MTA-inspired residential project at 1205 Broadway in Bushwick. A set of images posted on the firm’s Instagram stream shows renderings of a full-bodied exterior and heavy metal common spaces. Per the post, the building is inspired by the overhead elevated train carrying the M, J, and Z lines. The façade is framed by faux H-shaped metal columns stippled with rows of rivets. Corten steel will adorn the first two floors and large multi-pane windows will front the residential floors. The industrial theme will be carried through to the interiors. The lobby will be finished with rusted steel panels, rope lighting, and an exposed ceiling.
Permits for the project were filed earlier this year and have since been approved. The previously vacant site is located between Van Buren Street and Lafayette Avenue and is a short walk from the Kosciusko Street subway station. The 6-story building will have retail on its ground floor, a community facility on the second floor and eight apartments, likely rentals, above.
