Early in Williamsburg’s gentrification, the residential renaissance was heralded by glittering new condominiums like The Edge and industrial conversions like The Esquire Building, both types of which are rich in amenities. However, new development is closer in line with the boutique condo boom that has taken hold throughout Brooklyn. A prime example may be found at 550 Metropolitan Avenue, a six-story, nine-unit condominium that has just launched sales. Occupancy is estimated for September 2021.
One-bedrooms start at $999K, and a two-bedroom penthouse is listed for $2.65 million. At an average price of $1,419 per square foot, the building is above the average Williamsburg condo price of $1,126 per square foot (per CityRealty data).

Plans for a new condo at 550 Metropolitan Avenue date back to 2015, when the first permits were filed and the prewar townhouse on-site was demolished. Progress stalled after the demolition took place, but picked up again after Arch Companies acquired the project in October 2019. The design by AB Architekten towers over its nearest neighbors and makes a sleek, modern addition to its block.
Interiors feature 10’ ceilings, oversized windows, GRATO engineered hardwood floors, in-unit washer/dryer, and windowed home office space. The kitchens come equipped with eat-in peninsulas, white quartz countertops, Taj Mahal quartzite backsplash, custom cabinetry, and a suite of fully integrated Bosch appliances. Bright bedrooms enjoy generous closet space, and the baths have penny round floor tiles, custom dark ash veneer vanities, and Kohler fixtures.
550 Metropolitan Avenue’s amenities include a virtual doorman system, a package room, a bike room, and a common roof deck with skyline views. The building also offers a prime Brooklyn location on the cusp of Williamsburg and Bushwick with easy access to popular restaurants, cafes, nightlife, and boutiques in both neighborhoods. The Metropolitan Avenue G and the Lorimer Street L subway stops allow for an easy commute to Manhattan and other parts of Brooklyn.
