Here’s our first look at Related’s forthcoming condo tower planned at 555 West 22nd Street in West Chelsea. Renderings published on an EB-5 funding page show a brick, 22-floor tower designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects. The 254,000-square-foot development, tentatively named the Hudson Residences in conjunction with another tower at 515 West 18th Street, will accommodate 141 condos. Amenities are to include on-site parking, a spa, fitness center, and resident lounges. Preliminary construction permits were filed this past October and delivery is expected in late 2020.
In summer 2016, The Real Deal reported that Related was in contract to buy a portion of the site occupied by a U-Haul self-moving and storage facility. Related hopes to raise $182.5 million in EB-5 funding for construction — 10.5% of the Hudson Residences' projected $1.73 billion total cost. It is estimated that 8,312 jobs will be created through the two projects.
In this article:
The tower will stand between the Annabelle Selldorf-designed 220 Eleventh Avenue and Foster + Partners-designed 551W21. The site overlooks Chelsea Waterside Park, Chelsea Piers, and the Hudson River waterfront; and is a half-block from the High Line and seven blocks south of Hudson Yards. The tower will be Robert A.M. Stern’s fourth Hudson River waterfront building for Related. The previous commissions are Tribeca Park in Battery Park City, Superior Ink in the West Village and 70 Vestry under construction in Tribeca. Stern may also be designing some of the buildings at the residential-heavy western railyards of Hudson Yards.
