While several Jersey City buildings tout Manhattan skyline views as an amenity, the unofficial additional borough is shaping up to be no slouch. The latest proof of that can be found at 88 Regent Street, a 32-story tower planned for the northern edge of the Liberty Harbor North Redevelopment Area. A source told Jersey Digs that its location and height will make it one of the first things travelers to Jersey City see, and it should be quite a sight from across the river.
Renderings released by Hoboken-based architect Marchetto Higgins Stieve show a 32-story glass building with a rounded corner and a 12-story base that matches the height of adjacent buildings. The 13th floor will be entirely devoted to residential amenities and set back to reveal a distinction between the base and the tower. The remaining stories will rise into the sky.
Upon completion, which is estimated for 2020, 88 Regent Street will be home to 392 rental apartments, over 9,000 square feet of retail space, and over 5,000 square feet of office space. While a multi-level garage with room for 305 cars will be part of the project, it was devised as a “transit-oriented” effort: A new public plaza will connect the residential lobby and retail component to the nearby Jersey Avenue Light Rail station. The Liberty Harbor/Marin Boulevard ferry stop is also a short walk away. Proximity to environmentally friendly public transportation will undoubtedly improve its prospects for LEED certification.
