In 2017, then-Mayor de Blasio announced the first phase of NYC Ferry, an ambitious expansion of the Bloomberg administration's New York Water Taxi service. The initiative aimed to connect commuters across waterfront neighborhoods for just $2.75 per ride. The service launched with the East River Ferry route, serving Midtown East, Long Island City, Greenpoint, Williamsburg, DUMBO, and the Financial District.
Since then, NYC Ferry has grown to six year-round routes. These include the St. George route connecting the Far West Side to Battery Park City and the Astoria connection to Midtown East and Lower Manhattan, to name a few. Additionally, there are seasonal shuttles to Governors Island and the Rockaways, to the delight of beachgoers on summer weekends.

Despite a fare increase to $4 per ride, with a further rise to $4.50 set for September 9, 2024, enthusiasm remains high. Instagram boasts over 45,000 posts tagged #nycferry, and the summer 2024 saw record-setting ridership numbers. As NYCEDC President & CEO Andrew Kimball noted, "There is no better way to explore New York City than on our waterways, aboard a NYC Ferry."
NYC Ferry at the Astoria Landing
Despite the looming threat of rising sea levels and an increasing risk of cyclones, waterfront development in New York City continues to boom. Nearly two decades ago, the Bloomberg administration initiated a vision, followed by rezonings, to reconnect New Yorkers with the Brooklyn and Queens shorelines. This effort has since given rise to high-rise communities along the waterfronts of LIC’s Hunters Point South and Williamsburg-Greenpoint.
With significant investments transforming the city’s waterfronts into desirable and accessible locations, many New Yorkers are considering these once-overlooked manufacturing areas for living and investment. Below, we’ve compiled a list of the top 16 new condo developments conveniently located near NYC Ferry routes. While some may require a bit of a trek to the subway, these buildings offer residents stunning, unobstructed views, hotel-style amenities, and an ever-growing array of neighborhood attractions.
