Which new condo would you choose? Which new condo would you choose?
As New Yorkers go to the polls on Election Day, Amazon is poised to make a decision of its very own: According to The Wall Street Journal, the much-anticipated second headquarters of the Seattle-based company are to be split evenly between two locations, with Long Island City, Dallas, and Washington D.C. among the finalist.

As a likely lure, NYC has announced a commitment to invest $180 million in improving Long Island City's infrastructure, parks, and schools. The city also opened phase two of Hunter's Point South earlier this summer and has kicked-off the planning process for the decking and redevelopment of Sunnyside Yards.

Perched on the East River, Long Island City's Manhattan views and convenient public transportation are major draws not just for Amazon, but for the many young professionals who have already made their homes there in recent years. A bevy of new, eye-catching luxury rentals and condos have risen to meet the demand, attracting a new wave of residents to the neighborhood.

Furthermore, Localize.city, a real estate knowledge platform, found that the neighborhood has the largest number of apartments currently under construction. It also comes out on top for new units authorized as well as for permits filed but not yet approved. "If Amazon moves part of its second headquarters to Long Island City, it would have a tremendous impact on the neighborhood and others nearby," said Localize.city urban planner Stephen Albonesi. "But if any area in New York is poised for a major influx in residents, it's Long Island City, where a building boom is already remaking much of the area and where residents have been grappling with how to meet the demands of thousands of new people.”
