Extell's Central Park Tower at 225 West 57th Street will rise 1,550 feet, which will make it the tallest building in the New York City by roof height and the tallest residential building in the world. The parapet will rise 150 feet above 432 Park Avenue and over 100 feet above 111 West 57th Street.
When complete in 2020, Central Park Tower will also become the second-tallest skyscraper in the United States, surpassing Chicago’s Willis Tower, but below the "spire" height of One World Trade Center. To gain additional square footage for the project, Extell purchased the air rights from several surrounding lots including from the Art Students League of New York’s next door for which the tower will partially cantilever over. Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture (with architect of record Adamson Associates) was behind the design, and interiors were by Rottet Studio.

Located on Manhattan's Billionaires’ Row, Central Park Tower will have 179 super high-end residential units averaging 5,000 square feet. The top triplex penthouse, which will span floors 129-131, will be 17,000 square feet and will be offered at $95 million. 6sqft also reported that 20 of the 179 condominiums will cost $60 million and above.
There will be 50,000 square feet of luxury services and amenities on floors eight to twelve. There will also be a ballroom on the 100th floor with outrageous views, a cigar bar and private dining room. On the 14th floor, the building will feature the “Central Park Club” with a lounge, theater, conference room, play area and a tween lounge. A landscaped terrace will feature a 60-foot outdoor pool, central lawn and two gardens. And, on the 16th floor, there will be a 63-foot indoor pool, exercise room, spa and children’s playroom.
At street level, the building will be anchored by Nordstrom's flagship store as part of the 300,000 square feet of specialty retail space.
Central Park Tower promises “stratospheric views, exquisite architecture, gracious layouts, and phenomenal service will make Central Park Tower one of the most prestigious addresses on earth.” Quite lofty goals for quite a lofty building.
