570 Broome is one of several new NYC residential developments taking the green initiative but the 25-story condo, designed by Tahir Demircioglu of architecture firm Builtd, is the first of its kind to incorporate a new eco-friendly facade that self-cleans and purifies the air.
The Cincinnati-based manufacturer Pureti offers this facade-cladding treatment, which is done by spraying titanium dioxide nanoparticles on the Neolith sintered stone exterior. As the Wall Street Journal reports, when ultraviolet rays hit the treated surface, they set off chemical processes that burn away grime and convert contaminants such as nitrogen dioxide into neutral minerals and water vapor. Apparently, this has the same environmental impact as removing 625 cars from the road.

The innovative facade is currently being installed on the building, according to site photos taken by CityRealty in late May.

According to Pureti chief executive Glen Finkel, the treatment increases a developer’s cost by less than 5%.
And while one building won't change things significantly, cities that adopt this new technology can lead the way in the fight against air pollution.
And hey, it's good enough for NASA – they've partnered with Pureti to develop new self-cleaning surfaces for use on Earth and in space.
Located in SoHo, 570 Broome offers 54 condos, 8 of which are currently available with prices starting at $1.275M for a one-bedroom unit – below the neighborhood's median price of $1.65M. The building boasts interiors designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and amenities that include two landscaped gardens, a lounge with a game room, and a fitness center with Peleton bikes and a yoga studio.
