The sound stage company City Stage closed years ago, but a whole new production is coming to 435 West 19th Street – eventually. Design and build firm Six Sigma bought City Stage’s 20,000-square-foot office building for $21 million in August 2014 and set about adding a few floors to convert it to an ambitious eight-story condominium of unparalleled luxury. Now, nearly four years later, we're left wondering when this elaborate project will be complete.
A recent visit proved construction has halted, and adding to that, the Department of Buildings shows some open violations. But, an ultra-secretive teaser site has debuted, and it looks like it's new name is now The Pool House (it has been previously referred to as Highline 19). And while that may sound like a place to spend your spring break, it totally makes sense – if you recall, along with a private parking garage, each of the six units will have a private swimming pool.

Designing a private pool in each residence is ambitious enough, but Six Sigma, along with architects Pei Partnership, decided to push the envelope even further. Hydraulic front windows that will fold up like garage doors, allowing residents to enjoy their pools in the open air, and Jason Lee, president of Six Sigma, has said it will be one of the most automated buildings in the city. Oh, and residences will range from 3,800 to 5,200 square feet. The pressure is certainly on.
Building amenities will include a fitness center, wine cellar, private theater, basement storage, cold storage, and private outdoor space. 435 West 19th Street is a block and a half from the High Line; the best nightlife, culture, and dining of both the Meatpacking District and Chelsea are a short walk away.
Another stalled project from Six Sigma? The nearby 519 West 29th Street, set to rise just across the street from Soori High Line. The High Line-adjacent condos are to replace a six-story storage warehouse but a Google street view image from September 2017 shows the structure still remains and the DOB shows violations and a stop work order. However, the DOB also shows a new application for demolition submitted in early February.
A pending building application calls for a 12-story building with 43 units, spread throughout 56,163 square feet of residential space. There won't be private pools for every residence here, but there will be a pool on the rooftop terrace. The building will also have bike storage and balconies with landscaped green walls.
