More than five years after a three-alarm fire destroyed a Manhattanville supermarket and laundromat, construction has resumed on the site at 1440 Amsterdam Avenue. DNAinfo reported that residents were devastated by the news and worried about where they would shop for food now, but owner Lefkas Realty has already thought of that: According to permits filed with the city, the new building's 10,000+ square feet of retail space will be devoted to a supermarket.
In addition to the new supermarket, the new seven-story building will be home to a 5,000-square-foot community facility and 51 apartments on top. Renderings show a gray building roughly in line with its neighbors but with prominent white-framed windows sure to fill the apartments with light. Residential amenities are said to include a roof terrace, bike room, and laundry rooms on every floor.
An offering plan filed in September 2017 does not list a sellout price, but CityRealty data reports that Harlem's median condo prices range from $720K for one-bedrooms to $3.745 million for four-bedrooms and larger. Call CityRealty to find more information on Upper Manhattan and to get in touch with a broker specializing in the area.
