About a year and a half since Stevens Institute of Technology submitted an application for a new university center and student housing project, work is underway on the project for Hoboken’s only higher education facility. After the two brick buildings currently on-site are demolished, two glassy towers - one 19 stories, one 21 stories - will rise from the base of a three-story brick university center. The project's designers are Design Collective and Wallace Roberts and Todd.
The two towers will bring approximately 1,000 beds in single, double, and suite-style units that will allow students currently scattered across Hoboken to live on campus. While each floor will have a shared study lounge, the three-story university center will be a natural gathering place for students. Its offerings will include a student and faculty lounges, a fitness center, a conference area, a new food and dining venue, and an outdoor plaza looking out on stunning Manhattan skyline views. The project is aiming for LEED Silver certification, and completion is estimated for the 2021-2022 academic year.
