On the border of Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights, a vacant corner lot is about to see new life when Bedford Arms, an affordable housing complex built under the Mandatory Inclusion Housing program, goes up at 1336 Bedford Avenue. A rendering on the construction site shows a nine-story, light brick building with oversized windows rising above the surrounding buildings. Amenities in this elevator building will include 23 parking places, a bike room, gym, laundry room, and roof deck.
According to DNAinfo, 48 units will be set aside for residents making 80 percent of the area median income; the other 46 will be reserved for residents making no more than 130 percent of the area median income. Further criteria are not yet available, but CityRealty data reports that the median rent in Crown Heights is $2,892/month.
