After extensive coverage of the provocative inverted exterior, we finally get to peek inside the Morris Adjmi-designed condos at 83 Walker Street in Tribeca. Temporarily off market listings for two 2-bedroom units on the second and third floors show gracious layouts highlighted by floor-to-ceiling mahogany, sound-insulated bay windows. A private, key-in elevator opens directly into each apartment which is bestowed with 9.5-foot high ceilings, exposed brick walls, custom red oak floors, and utility closets with washer/dryer hookup. Open kitchens have custom Italian cabinetry, Caesarstone quartz countertops, large island, and state-of-the-art stainless steel appliances. Master suites have walk-in closet and bath with tub and marble flooring. Most units have rear-facing private terraces.

The two temporarily de-listed apartments were priced at $2.6 million for the 2nd-floor unit and $2.65 million for the 3rd-floor unit. The homes came in at a competitive $1,879 per square foot, just below the Tribeca average of $2,016 per square foot. Amenities at 83 Walker Street include an elevator, a welcoming double-height lobby, and convenient package room. The building's location is at the crossroads of Tribeca, SoHo, and Chinatown; and offers easy access to city's business districts.
A recent profile of the project by the Architect's Newspaper uncovers how Morris Adjmi sought to pay tribute to the history of cast iron architecture without literally copying the surrounding context. The façade’s distinctive design “evokes how cast iron was historically produced and assembled.” Full-width pre-cast concrete panels are finished in a creamy tone that resembles stone or the painted fronts of many cast-iron buildings. The panels have columns shapes pressed into them and bestride full-height arched openings.

“The depth of this facade really works well in the streetscape," Adjmi tells Archpaper. "When you first see the building you don’t notice anything, and then the more you look at it the richer it becomes.” The arched openings are infilled with mahogany wood window units that are sound-insulated to buffer the noise of the city. Additionally, the units are tilt-turn windows that resemble the double hung windows common throughout the district.
