Back in 2014, Bram Auto Group filed permits to construct a four-floor auto showroom at 679 Eleventh Avenue in Hell's Kitchen. A recent visit to the site at the southwest corner of 49th Street shows plans are finally moving forward as excavation has begun on the 31,591 square-foot commercial building.
A rendering posted on the perimeter fence shows just what's in store: a Lexus of Manhattan car dealership. Like several new showrooms that have gone up on Eleventh Avenue, the building will sport a cool, contemporary design with lots of metal and glass. The rendering also shows that the showroom building may serve as the base of a future tower. Another curiosity depicted are the cars suspended upside down from the curving ramps. SLCE is listed as the architects of record.
The site, in addition to 660 Twelfth Avenue next door, was previously owned by TF Cornerstone/Rockrose and was sold to an LLC linked to Bram for $16.6 million in late 2012. According to The Real Deal, 300,000 square feet of unused development rights also came with the purchase.
The much larger 660 Twelfth Avenue is currently receiving a two-story event space addition that will serve as the second location of Glasshouses. According to their website, the venue will feature full event planning services, have a seating capacity of 1,850, and have outdoor terraces with views of the river and skyline. Steel is currently rising and the venue is slated to open in late 2019.
