After two years since permits were first filed for a 10-story, 10-unit mixed-use residential building at 488 Fourth Avenue in Gowanus, we now have a first look at what is currently rising on the site, thanks to a rendering posted on the construction fence. Located between 11th and 12th Streets, the structure is currently veiled in scaffolding but looks nearly topped out. Permits list DJLU Architect as the architect of record and Coney Island-based firm Pacific Management as the owner.
488 Fourth Avenue is just the latest project to join the construction boom along Fourth Avenue, which includes larger-scale buildings like ODA's completed 251 First Street (275 4th Ave) and Issac & Stern's upcoming rental at 609 Fourth Avenue.

The building will tower over its low-rise neighbors and feature a setback on the 9th floor. There will be a ground-floor retail store and 14,915 square feet of residential space, meaning each unit will average a condo-sized 1,491 square feet. Most of the units are full-floor, with the exception of the first level unit. So far, it looks like balconies and a common roof deck will be the only amenities.
