A cluster of former warehouse and factory buildings in Long Island City may soon have a new use as a multi-family residential development.

Input Creative Studio has revealed renderings for the redevelopment of buildings at the southeast corner 40th Avenue and 21st Street, located across from the Queensbridge Houses and less than one block to the F train at 21st Street-Queensbridge. The site is walkable to Queensboro Plaza, an area that has seen many new residential developments including the 2017-built condominium Dutch LIC and new rental buildings including Tower 28, QLIC and Luna. Renderings show what appear to be five existing buildings transformed into a residential development; city records show the addresses as 40-09 21st Street, 40-05 21st Street, 21-22 40th Avenue, 40-20 22nd Street and 40-24 22nd Street - and all properties are owned by Elms Realty Corporation.

The buildings include a mix of five and six story structures that have been home to small industrial businesses in recent years. Renderings show buildings with a top-to-bottom renovation and several changes including new entrances and marquees; a two-story rooftop addition on the building fronting 40th Avenue creates space for a wraparound sun deck and rooftop terrace with a lawn.

Input Creative Studio identifies the project using the address of 40-09 21st Street and the renovated buildings show unique facade renovations and new architectural details. They have previously teased the rendering on Instagram and indicated this could be a rental development. The firm has several projects in the city including residential buildings at 495 St. Johns Place in Crown Heights and 1516 Fulton Street in Bed-Stuy, and a forthcoming office building at 18 Spencer Street in Williamsburg.
