As a building boom takes hold of Jersey City, the Lafayette section will not be left out: Ground just broke on a five-story, 309-unit rental at 100 Monitor Street. Ironstate Development Company, known for its work at 70 Columbus and Jersey City Urby, is developing the property in a joint venture with Brookfield Property Group and Landmark Developers. All were in attendance for the groundbreaking, as was Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop. A rendering by BKSK Architects shows a rectangular brick and steel building in a rectangular configuration around a 21,000-square-foot, amenity-rich courtyard.

The ground floor of the new building will be home to 3,800 square feet of retail space and the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency’s new, 8,000-square-foot headquarters. Upstairs, all 309 studio through two-bedroom apartments will have oversized windows, efficient layouts, and designer finishes. The aforementioned courtyard will have a pool, sun deck, grilling area, and natural lawn. Additional amenities will include a fitness center, lounge, and rooftop dog run.
“Development interest in Jersey City is moving away from the waterfront, and we are thankful to those who see the potential of this neighborhood.” – Steven Fulop, Mayor, Jersey City
The new building is rising on a vacant lot across the street from Liberty State Park and the Liberty Science Center. The Hudson-Bergen light rail station is at the end of the block for easy connections to downtown Jersey City and other public transportation options. The recreational offerings of Berry Lane Park are only a few blocks away, as is the open-air Pacific Flea market.
