Like many of the new condo developments along the High Line, Lantern House designed by Heatherwick Studio certainly makes the most of its surroundings. It is the London-based firm's first residential project in North America but will join two of their other grandiose addition to the west side: The Vessel at Hudson Yards and Little Island at Pier 55. Now nearing completion at 515 West 18th Street, the project's dynamic facade is said to be a modern take on the bay window. Through multiple exposures, residents will enjoy incredible natural light and vistas of the elevated park and West Chelsea. Now, just-released interior images depict hospitality-inspired apartments with warm, domestic finishes.

Upon approaching Lantern House, London-based firm March & White took care to complement the enormous bay windows and display an appreciation for light, symmetry, and open space. No detail was overlooked from floor to ceiling, and the result is 181 elegant apartments with thoughtful layouts, soaring ceilings, and spacious proportions.
Whether a one-bedroom apartment or a four-bedroom penthouse, the interiors present a pleasing contrast between high-end bespoke features, vivid pops of color, and textured stone. Many listings come with window seats to make the most of spectacular vistas, and select units feature private setback terraces. At the heart of each home, a custom-designed kitchen boasts a gorgeous mix of natural materials and elegant finishes.

Residents can look forward to sweeping views of the High Line, the Hudson River, and the Lower Manhattan skyline. And interestingly enough, Thomas Heatherwick goes one step further by making the most of the area below the High Line as well with a sculptural glass lobby. Between the two buildings, the free-standing lobby makes the most of abundant natural light with a stepped glass wall ranging from 10 feet to 25 feet. It is flanked by magnolia trees, faces the building's private courtyard, and minimizes corners and edges so as to maximize natural light and allow for a seamless indoor-outdoor transition.

Inside, the metal seam roof naturally draws the eye upward. The striking centerpiece of the room is a reception desk made from cast glass and bronze, and the surrounding furnishings from Studio van der Akker create a luxe yet inviting sitting area. In addition to Lantern House's apartments, March & White was at the helm of the lobby, not to mention the amenities. These will include a fitness center, spa, residential lounges, and on-site parking.

"As the High Line’s amazing riveted steel structure goes straight through the middle of our site, we knew we mustn’t miss the chance to borrow all its texture and character to make an idiosyncratic arrival experience for the building’s residents" - Thomas Heatherwick

High Line condo data Index tracking the sales prices of condos along the High Line
A sellout price is not listed on the offering plan under review, but prices are said to start at $1.7 million. According to CityRealty’s High Line index, the average price of condos running the length of the High Line is $1,787 per square foot. Sales are expected to launch in the first quarter of 2020, and occupancy is anticipated for fall 2020.
In the meantime, Heatherwick Studios continues to make its mark on New York. About half a mile south of Lantern House, work is underway on Little Island, a floating 2.4-acre park and performance space with an undulating deck. And in the heart of Hudson Yards, New York's newest neighborhood, Mr. Heatherwick's interactive sculpture The Vessel serves as both centerpiece and destination.
