A palatable new rental has come together at the northeast corner of Third Avenue and East 119th Street in East Harlem. While it doesn't appear leasing has officially begun, the scaffolding is down and the finishing touches are being applied to the apartments and storefronts inside.
The 8-story building addressed at 2183 Third Avenue (for now) has 50,102 square feet buildings, which includes 41 rental apartments, ground-floor retail and a community facility. The site is being developed by Sharon Cohen who, according to the Observer, purchased three pre-existing vacant lots for $3.2 million and additional air rights in 2012.

The firm of Caliendo Architects shaped a distinguished design in spite of a tight zoning envelope. The top four floors stagger upwards from a corner that is highlighted by metal panels. Along 119th Street, a scalloped facade interspersed with Juliet balconies adds much visual interest to the street.
Next door to the building is the vacant, albeit beautifully-intact Richard Webber Harlem Packing House at 207 East 119th Street. Landmarked earlier this month, the historic meat market building was built in 1895 as part of a larger commercial slaughterhouse, meatpacking and retail complex.
The project is a block south of CL Tower where a studio is on the market for $1,900/month. A few blocks north is the nearly-finished 2211 Third Avenue where recent listings for studios were priced from $2,100/month and one-bedrooms from $2,500/month.
