We all know Miss Lily’s Caribbean food restaurant has the best jerk chicken, jerk fries and jerk corn downtown. Now the food and music hot spot is getting an upscale residential building next door at 134-136 West Houston Street. After purchasing air rights from Miss Lily’s building, developer Rafi Enterprises collaborating with the designers at SWA Architecture are now building an 8-story, 7-unit residential building between Sullivan and MacDougal streets in Greenwich Village. Prior to demolition, the site held a red-brick walk-up building with the El Paso Spanish and Mexican restaurant at the ground floor.

Steel for the new building is now up to the seventh floor. Renderings on SWA’s page differ from what’s from a drawing posted on the construction fence. The final product will have evenly-spaced rows of punch-out windows along lower levels, a setback at the 5th floor and glassier sections sided by balconies above. There will be one apartment per floor, a ground-floor eating/drinking establishment and a communal roofdeck.
