The Meatpacking District has long been known for its nightlife, shopping, and dining. However, in the wake of Google’s success at 111 Eighth Avenue, companies and developers alike have noticed its potential as a working location. This June, Aetna arranged to move its headquarters from Hartford, CT to the entire office portion of 61 Ninth Avenue. Last month, Gene Kaufman released designs for a new brick and bronze office tower at 76 Eighth Avenue. Most recently, JBS Project Management released renderings of a new office building at 348 West 14th Street.
Two new floors are being added to the building on the site, and the interiors are undergoing a gut renovation to include new mechanicals, mezzanine space, and double-height, 16’6” ceilings. The design by Marin Architects will feature a new, modern glass façade and 15 feet of frontage. All uses are accepted, and there is an option to lease and brand the entire building. Delivery is expected for the first quarter of 2018.
