Construction has finally begun on the empty lot at 253 East 7th Street between Avenues C and D in the East Village. A 6-story residential building will soon rise on the same site that once held a salmon-colored 4-story townhouse and will bring 6 condo residences to the narrow, tree-lined street.
Several months after demolition was completed on the townhouse in late 2015, developers BSD Realty refiled permits for the new building with Issac & Stern Architects. The grey-brick design - which YIMBY described as "perfectly contextual" - is accentuated by large windows on the upper floors and smaller ones on the first two. The 65-foot-tall structure is located on the same block as the attractive Flowerbox Building and will fit right in with its other low-rise neighbors.
In this article:
Permits indicate that residential space will occupy 9,028 square feet, meaning each condo will average a spacious 1,500 square feet. Many units will also have their own floors. No word yet on a construction timeline.
