Last month, the popular LES blog, Bowery Boogie reported that the long-stalled Allen Street Hotel has resumed construction. Boogie says work had been stalled since February 2011 but now crews are working full steam to prepare for a Spring 2018 launch.
The venture is now being developed by Morry Kalimian's Elk Investors who purchased the property for $30.75M with real estate tycoon Morris Moinian. Updated filings show that 16-floor hotel will have 98 rooms and several eating and drinking establishments including a rooftop bar. New renderings posted on the site of retail leasing brokerage, Winick, show the tower will maintain a similar design to the initial proposal but will be clad with darker-colored glass and have no balconies.

The hotel will have wings on three streets and has the alternate addresses of 139 Orchard Street and 77-79 Rivington Street. Winick is seeking a tenant for a through-block restaurant and bar off the hotel lobby. That tenant will also run the 16th-floor rooftop bar and lounge will have far-reaching views over the Lower East Side. A second establishment is envisioned along the building’s low-rise wing that touches Orchard Street.
